What We Do

The Education Foundation of WCPS was incorporated in 2009 as the "WCPS Education Foundation" to respond to the local need for increased community involvement and support for public education. The foundation's Board of Directors is comprised of parents, business and civic leaders as well as WCPS staff. These community members come together to support Washington County, Maryland, public schools.

MISSION
The WCPS Education Foundation exists to enhance education for all students by securing resources to support innovative teaching and learning.  The Foundation serves as a catalyst for uniting schools and their communities.

VISION
Educational excellence will be achieved through volunteer engagement and financial support from community stakeholders.

GOALS
The Foundation seeks to secure adequate resources, public and private, needed to enhance the educational process by supporting activities not typically funded by tax dollars; plan and support special initiatives that promote WCPS to the entire community; and promote school needs and encourage exceptional ideas that improve the educational process.

ACTION
To meet these goals, the Foundation administers three hallmark initiatives, the Innovative Grant Program, Financial Literacy and College Financial Planning Curriculum, and the Super Reader Mentoring program providing reading intervention to our schools’ youngest struggling readers. The Foundation raises funds throughout the year to support these efforts through a combination of community sponsorships, grants, and other fundraising avenues.
